January 2008 Happy New Year to all HSPs living in New Zealand and Australia! The numbers on the mailing list have grown steadily since the inception of the network and now total over 65! I am planning a New Zealand meeting in Newtown, Wellington on Saturday the 17th of May. Times to be confirmed, but I expect somewhere between 10:30am to 3:00pm. There will be a door charge of around $5 to cover hiring the venue (community hall). Members from Australia are also welcome. If you would like to attend please let me know so that I can reserve you a place and provide you with more information. I am also in the process of looking at member numbers region by region with a view to determining areas with enough members for possible meetings etc. I will let you know more about this soon. I've been contacted by several members offering to be contact persons and I will be in touch with you soon. If anyone else is interested in volunteering, do drop me an email at ask@nzahspnetwork.com And last but not least, Ginny Webb is establishing a group in Perth - see Forum for more information. Best wishes to you for 2008! P.S. If you are on the mailing list and have not received the above notice by email please contact me - several of the email addresses I have been given for members have failed - may no longer be in use or may have been typed incorrectly.
July 2007 - Possible Meetings/Mini Gatherings Brisbane, Australia: CANCELLED Due to lack of numbers, this meeting will not be going ahead. New Zealand: So far there has not been much response. This will be postponed till 2008 If you are interested in attending please email us at ask@nzahspnetwork.com. Once we have an idea of numbers we can look into organising this. If you would like to volunteer to help co-ordinate things in your area, please contact us at the above email address. December 2006 - Update The website for The New Zealand-Australia Highly Sensitive Person's Network has been live for five months now. The response to the website has been great and I thank you for your comments. Membership is still small, but our numbers continue to grow and I am confident that as more people learn about sensitivity membership will pick up momentum in the future. I will be moving to Wellington before Christmas and in the New Year, once I have recovered from the stimulation of moving and adapting to a new way of life, I will be looking at ways of promoting HSP awareness in New Zealand and Australia. This is, I believe, why membership for our network is growing slowly at present - so few people know about HSPs. So keep spreading the word! You'll be surprised at how receptive many people are to learning about the trait. Jenna Avery in the USA has set up a website www.sensitiveprofessionals.com as resource for HSPs looking for professionals who deal with HSPs. While it currently caters mostly for the USA and UK it is open to anyone, so we hope that in the future, as awareness builds, professionals in New Zealand and Australia will register with her site. Elaine Aron has two new books, Psychotherapy with HSPs and Winners and Lovers (about love and power and the distortions we make in our relationships) due for release next year. Next year promises to have some exciting developments in store for HSPs on this side of the world. A local gathering is not too far off, I'm sure. In the meantime, I wish you all a very happy Christmas and everything of the best for 2007. - S. Bothma, Christchurch, New Zealand |
